App Aims: 1 App, 18 Tools, Thousands Of Possibilities
Reviewer’s Comments
Each time you open a new app, if it is not immediately obvious how to use the tool it will actually start by explaining how it works. There are 18 tools crammed into AppBox Pro. Here is a brief description for each of them.
- Battery Life – This app provides a summary of what your phone can do based on how much battery life is remaining. How long you can talk on 2G or 3G, how long you can surf the internet on 3G vs WiFi, how long you can play a game or use an app even figure out the length of time you can listen to music or watch movies.
- Clinometer (Inclinometer) – This is like a construction bubble level. If an object is level the bubble is in the center. This is simple and effective, but we don’t know how much use it will get.
- Currency Converter – This tool will convert 195 currencies. Simply tell the app the type of currency you have and what you want it converted to. We tested this with several currencies and didn’t have any problems.
- Days Until (Countdown) – This app lets you set up events like anniversaries, birthdays and keeps track of how many days until that event.
- Date Calculator – We didn’t find much use for this app and couldn’t tell much difference between Data Calculator and Days Until. Date Calculator does days until and a few other things.
- Flashlight (Torch) – This app changes your screen to one of many colors. White seems to work best as a flashlight but you can also use reds, blues, greens or whatever color you desire.
- Holidays – This displays the dates of holidays from 83 countries, along with how many days past or until the holiday occurs.
- Loan Calculator – This calculates payment amounts based on principle, term and interest. It also shows the amortization amount and can compare two loans.
- Periodic Calculator – We are not sure why this tool is referred to as a periodic calculator. It is an ovulation calculator that can be used for family planning. There really isn’t anything else it is good for. Just call it what it is, an ovulation calendar.
- Price Grab – This offers a unit price comparison. Broken down this means you enter the price of something, say a bag of Skittles. If there are 43 pieces of candy in a bag of Skittles and the bag costs 89 cents, how much does each Skittle cost? This tool will do the math for you.
- Random Number – Quick, think of a number between 1 and 573. Or let this app do it for you. Just enter the starting number and the ending number, and then shake your device. It rolls a random number for you.
- Ruler – This displays a ruler on the screen. We couldn’t think of anything practical to use this for.
- Sale Price – We have all been standing in a department store looking at a great pair of pants that happens to be on sale. The tag says they cost $54.99 but the sign says they are 30% off, how much do they cost? This app will tell you. Enter the price, the percentage discounted and the app will calculate the sales price and if needed even add tax.
- System Info – This tool shows you the device system information about memory and storage. How much is free, wired, active, etc.
- Tip Calculator – How much do you tip a server in a casual restaurant? If you decide to tip 15% and your tab comes to $56.38, how much do you tip? With just a touch this app will figure it out for you. It also accounts for tax and can split the amount if you are eating with friends.
- Translator – We had fun testing this tool. It works, for the most part. Some things we tested didn’t come out as proper as they should, but for the most part the main point was delivered.
- Unit Converter – This feature includes 17 categories like: angles, cooking, energy, length, pressure and speed. Temperature and time can be converted using 357 units of measure.
- Web Apps Links – This includes Google Books, a game called Collapse (which seems to have been renamed “ColorClip”), and Apple WebApps.
Overall this is a great app and certainly worth the $0.99 price tag. With so many tools in one box you would have to be lazy or boring to not find this app useful. Check out our music and movie download reviews as well as our other iPhone App reviews to help you get the most out of your iPhone.
