App Aims: Find Local Businesses And Services
Reviewer’s Comments
Yellow Pages is a useful app and we like the tie-in to Google Maps, driving directions and the one tap call feature that the iPhone supports. With the iPod touch this app isn’t quite as convenient since it relies on WiFi to access the internet for local business information. From what we can tell this app and AirYell, also by Avantar, are the same product, except the icons on the bottom of the main screen are in a different order and the logo has been altered a bit.
This app uses Yellow Page information to provide local business information by search term or category. Across the bottom of the main screen it has quick search icons for restaurants, doctors, auto services and pizza. It also includes more general categories, however they are limited, so you may have to conduct a search by the business name if you know it. We liked that you can easily add businesses to your iPhone contacts which is convenient if you call them often.
We found this app useful for finding business around a specific zip code and the directions were accurate from our office. However, we had a difficult time changing the address while using the iPod touch. When we attempted to use the “change location” feature it would give us useless results like for restaurants all over the United States and not just within the newly added zip code. We tried several times and kept getting the same results. It could be different on the iPhone and since the app is free it’s worth testing out. If you can’t get it to work for you, there are comparable apps available or you can use Google Maps.
