App Aims: Adding Pizzazz To Your “Wish You Were Here” Greetings
Reviewer’s Comments
Snail mailing paper postcards is SO last century. SodaSnap Postcards app brings a new approach to this nostalgic style of communication. Take a picture from within the application or browse through your own photo library, select one or more recipients, add a greeting and send it on its way. Your image and greeting is placed in a simple postcard format, which passes through SodaSnap’s servers and then is immediately sent to the addressees. A courtesy copy of your postcard will be sent to your own email address so you can see how it looks. The recipients receive an email postcard and a link to the photo’s location on Google Maps.

SodaSnap Postcards offers a limited feature set. It is missing customization options to modify the font, background, and colors or crop the image. The ability to add music or record a brief message would really increase the desirability of this app. The addition of these features would set this app apart from the existing iPhone email capabilities.
The interface of the app is simple and elegant. The integration with the online presence is seamless and the non-scrolling navigation on the website is interesting and fun to use. The arrival of the postcard to its destination was quite fast.
The only drawback in the app’s interface is the limited text field. Resizing the font for longer text, either at the user level or via a “smart” field, would be a valuable addition to the app.
SodaSnap Postcards has a clean, modern look that is carried throughout the app and the website. The use of graphics is limited to very small simple icons for camera, settings, help, and browsing. Enlarging the icons would make them easier to see. They look like they were an afterthought at this point.
This is a very stable app. It ran reliably and without faltering throughout the review period even when transitioning to the browse mode.
SodaSnap Inc. offers email support and features a minimal FAQs page on their website. The developers are very responsive to support and request issues submitted on their email form.
SodaSnap Postcards is a decent value because it’s a free program. Adding more features would make this a must-have app.
Apart from the simple graphic postcard view that SodaSnap adds, this app doesn’t really do anything more than the existing email capabilities of the iPhone. Incorporating additional features to customize the cards would make this app more desirable but as it stands now, it’s really doesn’t add anything new or exciting to the iPhone.
