App Aims: 360º Photo Views
Reviewer’s Comments
Pangea VR is an iPhone/iPod touch viewer for VR (virtual reality) panorama photographs. Pangea Software maintains a list of public panorama portfolios that are updated when you run it on your iPhone. Pangea VR helps you choose and view panoramas from around the world. Once the photo is downloaded, the screen is filled with the picture and you can spin around the 360º images using the touch interface. You can bookmark locations to return to them later and there is also a button to go directly to the website where the photographs are located. Pangea VR also allows you to download panoramic pictures from websites other than those in the developer’s database.

Pangea VR allows you to locate, download and view beautiful interactive 360º VR panoramic photographs. You can look at anything in the landscape of the photo. A swipe sideways moves the scene around your perspective and a swipe up or down allows you to look at the sky or the ground. With a double tap you can zoom in or out, although the photo becomes pixelated if you zoom in too far.
The portfolio chooser is very easy to use, but it really could use a search function. It contains so many options to choose from that you can easily become overwhelmed.
Pangea VR has a very nice interface. There are buttons for help and to navigate around the app that are easy to identify and click. You can adjust the drift and drag sensitivity of the image panning making it simple to move around the photo with the amount of motion you’re comfortable with. There are advertising and links to Pangea Software’s other apps but for a free app that does what it does so well, it’s definitely understandable and tolerable.
Pangea VR is a well organized app with nice looking screens, explanatory text and, of course, beautiful images to download and view. It is a pleasure to use.
The app is a solid program that never crashed a single time in all the use during review. Image downloads were quick and application navigation is straightforward.
Help is available from explanatory text in the app as well as a button that links to the Pangea website with lots of good information and screenshots. There is good information about including your own website in their database as well as what you would need to create and view your own portfolios.
The free version of Pangea VR is definitely worth having on your iPhone for viewing the thousands of panoramas from nearly every corner of the earth. There is also a Pro version for purchase that allows you to download and view panoramas, even when you don’t have a network connection or for faster access.
Even if you travel constantly to new places, there is no way to visit the entire world. With Pangea VR, you have a way to drop in on a spot on the globe and take a 360º view of the location. Pangea VR is a free app and does its job very well. Panoramas are quick to download and you can customize the amount of motion to a level you are comfortable with.
