App Aims: Tracking Calories And Nutritional Value Without WiFi
Reviewer’s Comments
We found Nutrition Menu, despite its higher than usual app price, to be a good value since it doesn’t require EDGE, 3G or WiFi to work, so you always have access to information, even on an iPod touch that isn’t connected to WiFi. We also liked that it included restaurant and common foods, since many apps focused only on restaurants.
This app has information on over 33,000 menu items for over 320 restaurants in the USA and Canada. It also includes information for over 27,000 common items, so this could potentially be the only app you need to access basic nutritional information like calories, fat, carbs, sugar, protein, sodium and fiber. This app keeps track of your food totals for up to seven days and you can subtract totals for exercise, although you have to enter in the number, it does not have exercise information. For convenience, it displays your daily total on the iPhone menu icon, so you do have to open the program to know how many calories you have left to consume for the day.
This app doesn’t have high-end images or icons but it’s easy to use and is packed full of information that is fully accessible without WiFi. It has a good search tool and you can adjust food scores and customize favorites. It would be nice if it could also track weight, but it isn’t necessary to make the program useful, it just would be convenient for dieters. Overall, we think Nutrition Menu is a great nutrition tool, especially for iPod touch users.
