Flip has been compared to Tetris, a Rubik’s Cube, and Bejeweled among others. This game app uses the touchscreen and accelerometer abilities of the iPhone and iPod touch to create a fun puzzle-solving experience. Flip includes three game modes: Standard, Puzzle and Speed. Standard is similar to Tetris. Arrange three cubes of the same color together to remove them but don’t let the stack get too high or you lose. Tilt the device to move the entire board of pieces from side to side or top to bottom. Puzzle requires you tilt the iPhone a limited number of times to move colored cubes onto a pulsing cube of the same color. It starts out easy but quickly becomes pretty challenging. Speed challenges you to a series of fast-paced matching puzzles which become increasingly difficult as you progress.

It takes practice to hone your Flip skills as you move those little cubes around the screen. The accelerometers are extremely sensitive—more so than in other games that use them. You can suspend play without problem allowing you to take a call or respond to a text mid-game without consequence. Flip comes with a catchy soundtrack but if you’d prefer, you can listen to your own tunes from the iPod while you’re playing. Top it all off by tracking your high scores locally and globally to see how you’re doing. The games are a lot of fun to play and have high replay value. Just because you’ve conquered a level once, doesn’t mean you can do it again! All in all, a good game that exploits the touchscreen, accelerometer and graphics capability of the iPhone/iPod touch.
