The iTaxMan app is an income tax estimator. It’s very simple to use, well-organized and requires no special instructions although the developer does provide some onscreen tips for various fields. The app uses a tumbler interface to choose your filing status but the rest of the information is added via the keyboard. iTaxMan makes playing “what if” very easy. If you want to see the different tax scenarios that could affect your refund, it’s very simple to develop the situations to compare.

That being said, there are a few weaknesses in an otherwise helpful app. iTaxMan doesn’t allow you to save the different scenarios so it’s advisable that you take a screenshot of each of the Summary screens so that you can compare the results. The app also requires that you do a little behind-the-scenes work on your deduction amounts. Obviously, the closer to actual amounts you enter, the more accurate the estimated results are. Another feature the app is missing is the Child Credit. It would be nice to be able to take that into account as you’re entering your information.

It goes without saying that this app is purely for estimation purposes. It isn’t intended to take the place of a good tax advisor or software program. Overall, the app’s value outweighs its cost of 99 cents. It’s certainly worth a spot on your iPhone’s screen.
