App Aims: Tote-able Tomes
Reviewer’s Comments
Love to read? Hate to tote a book with you wherever you go? If you find yourself with a bit of time to kill lose yourself in an electronic book with eReader by Fictionwise, Inc for the iPhone and iPod touch. The eReader program has free book titles which are considered public domain. These usually consist of classic titles and works that were written with the intent that they be distributed free of charge. Purchase new titles through the Fictionwise website by first establishing an account on their website complete with credit card number. You can’t download even the free titles without a credit card number on file.
eReader allows you to choose the text and background colors from a limited palette within the app. That way, if you find it too difficult to read black text on a stark white background, you can choose a more eye-strain resistant color scheme. Navigating through a book is simple—done with a tap or swipe of a finger.
One of the valuable features that the eReader app has is the ability to browse multiple ebook websites and download content in the eReader PDB format. (PDB is a standard file type for text files on a handheld device.) With the extensive library of both public domain (free) titles as well as contemporary paid titles, there’s plenty of reading material in whatever genre you prefer. At this time, eReader only supports books but you can download News apps to get your daily headlines.
