App Store Set to Sell 1 Billionth App, Give Away Big Prizes

The Apple App Store is less than 70 million app downloads shy of rounding 1 billion. Granted nine-hundred million of these apps downloads probably fall into the nefarious “Pull my finger app” sector of usability, long-term relevancy and disposability, the figure itself is still an impressive one, especially when considering the length of the App Store’s operation.

To commemorate the occasion and, more likely, to accelerate its occurrence, Apple has announced that will award the 1,000,000,000th app downloader with a prize package. A big prize package.

The package includes a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card, a “fully loaded” MacBook Pro, 32GB iPod Touch and a Time Capsule.

Not bad. However, considering that Apple makes the prize package equivalent (around $13,500) every time Steve Jobs blinks an eye, perhaps a $1,000,000 iTunes Gift Card isn’t too much to ask.
